Private Full Body Ultrasound Scan in London
Book a tailored, same-day full body ultrasound (multi-region ultrasound health check) with expert sonographers. Choose the areas you want assessed, get clear same-day results, and follow-up guidance. Self-referral welcome.
What is a “Full Body” Ultrasound?
There is no single scan head-to-toe in one pass. Instead, a full body ultrasound is a customised package of multiple ultrasound regions performed in one visit (for example: abdomen, pelvis, thyroid/neck, aortic and carotid screening, soft-tissue lumps, and targeted vascular Doppler). This approach keeps radiation at zero and focuses on common, actionable findings.
- Same-day appointments in Central London (including the Harley Street area) and selected satellite clinics.
- Experienced sonographers & consultants with clear, clinician-ready reports.
- Transparent pricing based on regions selected (see FAQs).
What’s typically included
Core (Most Popular)
- Abdomen – liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas (visualisation permitting), spleen, kidneys, aorta.
- Pelvis – uterus & ovaries (female, transabdominal; transvaginal if clinically appropriate), prostate & bladder (male).
- Thyroid & Neck – thyroid gland and major neck lymph node levels.
- Aorta screening – abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) check.
Optional Add-ons
- Carotid Doppler – plaque & flow assessment (stroke risk context).
- Axilla & Groin – lymph nodes / hernia evaluation.
- Testes or Scrotal (male), Breast ultrasound (symptom-driven).
- Vascular (leg veins/arteries) – DVT check or PAD screening when indicated.
- Soft-tissue lumps – targeted “lump & bump” assessment.
Note: We tailor the protocol to your symptoms, risk factors, and time available. Tell us your priority areas when booking.
Who is this scan for?
- People wanting a radiation-free health check focused on abdomen/pelvis/neck and common vascular risks.
- Those with non-specific symptoms (bloating, upper abdominal discomfort, urinary issues) needing a first-line look.
- Follow-up of previously found benign cysts, stones, or fatty liver.
What ultrasound can & can’t do
- Great for: gallstones, biliary dilation, fatty liver, simple liver/renal cysts, hydronephrosis, aortic size, pelvic organs, thyroid nodules, superficial lumps, fluid collections, many hernias, and targeted vascular flow with Doppler.
- Limited for: lungs, bowel mucosa, deep pelvic structures in some body types, pancreas (gas can obscure), and screening for occult cancers body-wide. For whole-body cancer screening, other modalities (e.g., MRI/CT) may be more suitable based on clinical context.
- Abnormal findings may require blood tests, MRI/CT, or biopsy. We’ll guide you clearly if that’s needed.
Preparation
- Abdomen: Fast 4–6 hours (small sips of water allowed).
- Pelvis: Arrive with a comfortably full bladder (drink 500–700 ml water 45–60 minutes before).
- Wear two-piece clothing; avoid heavy lotions on areas to be scanned.
- Bring prior imaging or bloods if available.
How the appointment works
- Brief history and review of your priorities.
- Ultrasound performed with warm gel; colour Doppler used where helpful.
- Typical duration: 30–60 minutes depending on regions selected.
Clear, same-day results
- Same-day written report in plain English, plus shareable images.
- Actionable next-step plan: reassurance & routine follow-up, GP tests, specialist referral, or alternative imaging.
Popular combinations
- General Health: Abdomen + Pelvis + Thyroid/Neck + AAA check
- Vascular Focus: AAA + Carotid Doppler + Leg vein DVT screen (if symptomatic/risk-based)
- Women’s Health: Abdomen + Pelvis (± transvaginal) + Thyroid/Neck
- Men’s Health: Abdomen + Pelvis (prostate & bladder) + Testes + AAA
FAQs
How much does a full body ultrasound cost?
Pricing depends on the number of regions (e.g., Abdomen only vs Abdomen + Pelvis + Thyroid/Neck + Vascular). We’ll confirm a fixed self-pay quote before booking. Add-ons like carotid or leg Doppler are priced separately.
Is this a cancer screening test?
No single ultrasound can exclude cancer everywhere. Ultrasound is excellent for several organs but not a whole-body cancer screen. If your goal is cancer screening, ask us about appropriate pathways (which may involve MRI/CT or targeted tests).
Do I need a referral?
No, self-referral is accepted. If you have a GP/consultant letter, bring it so we can tailor the protocol.
How long do results take?
You’ll receive a same-day report with images. If additional tests are recommended, we outline them clearly.
What if something abnormal is found?
Your report will explain the finding and suggest next steps—from reassurance and interval check to bloods, MRI/CT, or referral. We can help coordinate further care.
Is Doppler included?
Colour Doppler is used where clinically useful (e.g., aorta, carotids, leg veins) and may be itemised when a dedicated vascular study is requested.
