What is included in the Heart Health Check for thyroid patients?
The current £699 PrivateSono package includes thyroid ultrasound, 12-lead ECG, echocardiography, a GP consultation and blood tests. The blood panel listed on the current service page includes Full Blood Count, detailed cholesterol tests, thyroid function tests including FT4 and TSH, kidney tests and liver tests. The aim is to assess thyroid structure, thyroid function and relevant cardiovascular effects together.

Thyroid ultrasound
Assesses thyroid size, structure, echotexture, nodules and visible inflammatory changes associated with thyroid disease.
12-lead ECG
Records the heart’s electrical activity to identify rhythm and conduction abnormalities present during the recording.
Echocardiogram
Ultrasound assessment of heart chambers, valves, pumping function, wall motion and Doppler blood flow.
GP consultation

Why assess the heart when you have thyroid disease?
Thyroid hormones affect heart rate, rhythm, vascular resistance and cardiac workload. Symptoms may therefore overlap between endocrine and cardiovascular conditions.
Palpitations
Overactive thyroid states can be associated with a faster or irregular heartbeat, while other causes must also be considered.
Fast or slow pulse
Thyroid dysfunction can influence resting heart rate, but persistent abnormalities need clinical interpretation.
Breathlessness
Breathlessness may have thyroid, cardiac, respiratory or other causes; echocardiography can assess structural cardiac factors.
Fatigue

No fasting is normally required unless the clinic gives specific instructions for your blood tests.
Bring your medication
Bring a current medication list, including levothyroxine, antithyroid medication, beta-blockers and cardiovascular treatments.
Bring previous thyroid results
Previous TSH/FT4 results, antibody tests, thyroid ultrasound reports and endocrinology letters can help comparison.
Bring cardiac records
Previous ECGs, echocardiograms, ambulatory-monitor reports and cardiology correspondence may be useful.
Wear comfortable clothing

Why can thyroid disease affect the heart?
Thyroid hormones influence heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure and cardiac workload. Both overactive and underactive thyroid states can contribute to palpitations, rhythm changes, blood-pressure changes and other cardiovascular symptoms, so clinical interpretation should combine symptoms with thyroid and cardiac findings.
What does the thyroid ultrasound assess?
Thyroid ultrasound assesses gland size, structure and echotexture and can identify nodules, cysts and sonographic changes associated with thyroid inflammation. Ultrasound cannot determine thyroid hormone function, which is assessed with blood tests.
What does the ECG assess?
A 12-lead ECG records the heart’s electrical activity at rest and can identify rhythm or conduction abnormalities present during the recording. It may be useful when thyroid dysfunction is associated with palpitations or an altered heart rate.
What does the echocardiogram assess?
Echocardiography uses ultrasound to evaluate heart chambers, valves, muscle thickness, pumping function and blood flow. It can identify structural or functional changes that may be relevant when cardiac symptoms are present.
Which blood tests are included?
The current PrivateSono page lists full blood count, detailed cholesterol tests, thyroid tests including FT4 and TSH, kidney-function tests and liver-function tests as part of the general health blood-test component.
Is a GP consultation included?
Yes. The current package includes a one-to-one GP consultation to review thyroid health, symptoms, results and appropriate next steps. Further endocrinology or cardiology review may be recommended depending on the findings.
Do I need a GP referral?
No GP referral is normally required to book the PrivateSono package. Bring your current thyroid medication, previous thyroid blood tests, previous ultrasound reports and any previous ECG or cardiac investigations if available.
Can this package diagnose every thyroid or heart condition?
No. Thyroid ultrasound assesses structure rather than hormone function, and a resting ECG and standard echocardiogram cannot rule out every rhythm disorder or coronary artery problem. Additional blood tests, ambulatory ECG monitoring, CT coronary angiography, endocrinology review or other investigations may be recommended.
