🔍 Frequently Asked Questions – Pelvic Health Check-Up

1. Why should I have my pelvic area checked?

Many pelvic conditions—such as ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, or prostate issues—can develop with few or no symptoms initially. A pelvic health check-up helps detect problems early, reducing the risk of complications and supporting your reproductive and urinary health.

2. What does the Pelvic Health Check-Up include?

Our pelvic check-up includes a detailed ultrasound scan of your pelvic organs (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes for women; prostate, bladder for men) to check for cysts, fibroids, or other abnormalities. Relevant urine or blood tests may be included to assess infection, inflammation, or hormone levels. A GP consultation is provided to explain your results and discuss any further steps.

3. How is the pelvic ultrasound scan performed?

Pelvic ultrasound scans are safe and non-invasive. Women may have a transabdominal (through the tummy) and/or transvaginal (internal) scan for better detail. Men usually have a transabdominal scan to assess the bladder and prostate. The procedure is painless and performed by an experienced sonographer.

4. Can an ultrasound detect pelvic problems?

Yes. Ultrasound is an excellent tool for detecting cysts, fibroids, polyps, enlarged prostate, pelvic masses, fluid collections, or signs of infection. If more detail is needed, further imaging such as MRI may be recommended.

5. What symptoms might suggest a pelvic issue?

Common symptoms include pelvic pain, bloating, irregular periods, heavy or painful periods, pain during intercourse, difficulty urinating, frequent urinary tract infections, unexplained infertility, or lower abdominal discomfort.

6. Can I book this pelvic scan without a referral?

Yes. At London Private Ultrasound, you do not need a GP referral. You can book your pelvic health check-up directly online or by phone.

7. Who should consider a pelvic health check-up?

A pelvic scan is recommended for:
Women with menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain, or fertility concerns
Women with a family history of ovarian or uterine conditions
Men with urinary symptoms or concerns about prostate health
Anyone with unexplained pelvic discomfort

8. Will I receive the results on the same day?

Ultrasound reports are typically ready within 24 hours. Any additional urine or blood test results are reviewed with you by our GP during your follow-up consultation on the first Friday after your visit.

9. Are any tests done on the same day as the scan?

Yes. Any required urine or blood tests are done on the same day as your pelvic ultrasound for your convenience.

10. What happens if something abnormal is found?

If an abnormality is detected, you will receive a detailed report and advice on next steps. You can discuss the findings with your own GP, or we can help you arrange a referral to a trusted gynaecologist, urologist, or other specialist for further evaluation and treatment.
