Kidney Health Check Packages

Our comprehensive Kidney Health Check packages are carefully designed to evaluate the health and function of your kidneys, bladder, urinary tract, and—for men—the prostate gland. This all-inclusive assessment combines advanced diagnostic imaging, expert consultations, and detailed laboratory testing to provide a clear understanding of your kidney health.

Package Includes:

  1. Kidney, Bladder & Prostate Ultrasound (KUB)
A non-invasive ultrasound scan of the kidneys, bladder, and urinary tract is performed. For male patients, this also includes evaluation of the prostate gland. This imaging helps detect issues such as kidney stones, cysts, urinary tract obstructions, and prostate enlargement.

  2. GP Consultation
A private consultation with a general practitioner allows you to discuss any symptoms, medical history, or concerns. The GP will conduct a physical examination and provide guidance tailored to your health profile and test results.

  3. Comprehensive Blood Test
A detailed blood panel is carried out to assess overall kidney function, liver health, metabolic markers, and more:

    • Kidney Function: Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Bicarbonate, Urea, Creatinine, eGFR
    • Liver Function: Bilirubin, ALP, AST, ALT, Gamma GT, Total Protein, Albumin, Globulin
    • Cardiac/Muscle Enzymes: LDH, CK
    • Bone Markers & Metabolic Panel: Calcium, Phosphate, Uric Acid, Glucose, Triglycerides, Cholesterol
    • Iron Status: Iron and Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC)

        4. Urine Tests

  • Urine Culture and Microscopy (UCEM): Detects signs of infection or inflammation in the urinary tract.
  • Urine Microalbumin (UMA): A sensitive marker for early kidney damage, particularly in patients with diabetes or high blood pressure.

🔍 Frequently Asked Questions – Kidney Health Check

1. Why should I get my kidneys checked?

Your kidneys play a crucial role in filtering waste, regulating blood pressure, and balancing fluids. Many kidney problems, including cysts, stones, or early-stage disease, develop silently. Early detection can help prevent chronic kidney disease or complications like high blood pressure and kidney failure.

2. What does the Kidney Health Check include?

The kidney check-up includes a high-resolution ultrasound scan of both kidneys and the bladder, a GP consultation to review your results, and optional blood and urine tests to assess kidney function, filtration rate (eGFR), and possible infections or abnormalities.

3. How is the kidney ultrasound performed?

This is a painless, non-invasive scan that uses sound waves to visualise your kidneys and urinary tract. A water-based gel is applied to your back and abdomen, and a handheld probe is used to produce clear images. The scan typically takes 20 minutes.

4. Can ultrasound detect kidney problems?

Yes. Kidney ultrasound can identify cysts, tumors, kidney stones, infections, obstructions, or signs of chronic kidney disease. It’s often the first step in investigating abnormal kidney function or urinary symptoms.

5. What symptoms may indicate a kidney issue?

Common signs include back pain, flank discomfort, blood in urine, frequent urination, foamy urine, swelling in the legs or face, fatigue, or high blood pressure. Even without symptoms, a check-up is valuable if you’re at risk.

6. Do I need a referral to book this scan?

No. At London Private Ultrasound, you can book a kidney scan directly without a GP referral. Simply schedule online or call us to arrange your visit.

7. Who should consider a kidney health check?

This check is recommended for:
• People with high blood pressure or diabetes
• Those with a personal or family history of kidney disease
• Individuals with frequent urinary tract infections
• People at risk of kidney stones or with known bladder issues
• Anyone with abnormal kidney blood test results

8. Will I receive my results on the same day?

Ultrasound scan reports are usually prepared within 24 hours. Your GP consultation will go through the findings in detail and provide recommendations for further tests or treatments if needed.

9. Can I have blood and urine tests during the same visit?

Yes. All relevant blood and urine tests can be completed on the same day for a complete kidney function assessment. These are often reviewed during your follow-up GP appointment.

10. What happens if something abnormal is found?

If the scan or tests detect an issue, we’ll provide a full report and guide you on the next steps. We can refer you to a trusted nephrologist or urologist for further investigation and treatment if required.
