🔍 Frequently Asked Questions – Menopause Health Check-Up
1. Why should I have a menopause health check-up?
Menopause is a natural phase of life, but hormonal changes can bring symptoms like hot flushes, mood swings, sleep issues, fatigue, and reduced bone and heart health. A menopause check-up helps confirm where you are in the transition, rule out other conditions, and guide you on treatment options to manage symptoms and protect your long-term health.
2. What does the Menopause Health Check-Up include?
Our menopause check-up includes a blood test to measure key hormone levels (FSH, LH, oestradiol) and thyroid function, as thyroid imbalances can mimic menopause symptoms. A pelvic ultrasound may be done to assess your ovaries, uterus, and endometrial lining. A GP consultation is included to explain your results and discuss lifestyle changes, HRT (if appropriate), or other treatment options.
3. How is menopause diagnosed?
Menopause is typically confirmed when you’ve not had a period for 12 consecutive months. Blood tests can support this by showing elevated FSH and low oestrogen levels. Your doctor may also check for other conditions that can cause similar symptoms.
4. What symptoms might suggest I need a menopause check-up?
Common symptoms include irregular periods, hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, low libido, vaginal dryness, trouble sleeping, fatigue, or bone/joint pain. Unexpected heavy bleeding or post-menopausal bleeding should always be checked.
5. Can I book this menopause check-up without a referral?
Yes. At London Private Ultrasound, you don’t need a GP referral. You can book your menopause health check-up directly online or by calling us.
6. Who should consider a menopause health check-up?
A menopause check-up is ideal for:
Women aged 40–60 experiencing new or worsening symptoms
Women who have stopped menstruating and want confirmation they’re post-menopausal
Anyone considering or already on HRT and wanting a baseline check
Women with family history of early menopause
Women aged 40–60 experiencing new or worsening symptoms

7. Will I receive my results on the same day?
Your ultrasound report will be ready within 24 hours if a scan is done. Blood test results are usually available within 3 working days and reviewed with you by our GP during your follow-up consultation on the first Friday after your visit.
8. Are all tests done on the same day as the appointment?
Yes. Any scans, blood, or urine tests needed for your menopause check-up are completed during your initial visit for convenience.
9. What happens if my results are abnormal?
If your results show unexpected hormone levels or other issues (like ovarian cysts, thickened endometrial lining, or thyroid concerns), you’ll get a clear report and personalised advice on next steps. We can refer you to a trusted specialist if needed.
10. Can I get advice on treatment options?
Absolutely. Your GP consultation will cover lifestyle tips, dietary advice, medical treatments like HRT, or alternative options to help manage your symptoms and protect your bone, heart, and mental health during menopause and beyond.
