Direct answer

What is the Female Pelvic Health Package?

This package is designed for women who want a broader pelvic-health assessment than ultrasound alone. It combines structural imaging with general, inflammatory and ovarian-associated blood markers, followed by GP and pharmacist review.

Why combine these tests?

Ultrasound shows pelvic anatomy, while blood tests can identify anaemia, inflammation, metabolic or organ-function abnormalities and provide CA 125 as an ovarian-associated marker. The GP review interprets these findings alongside symptoms and medical history.

Six core components

What’s included in the Pelvic Health Check?

The current LondonSono package specification has been adapted for this PrivateSono service.

01

Pelvic ultrasound

Transabdominal and, where clinically appropriate and consented, transvaginal ultrasound assessing the uterus, endometrium, ovaries, adnexa and pelvic environment.

02

24-biomarker blood profile

A broad baseline profile covering haematology, kidney/electrolyte, liver, bone/mineral, metabolic and iron-related markers.

03

CRP

C-reactive protein is an inflammation marker interpreted alongside symptoms, examination, ultrasound and other blood results.

04

CA 125

An ovarian-associated marker that can be elevated in both benign and serious conditions, so it must never be interpreted in isolation.

05

30-minute GP Strategy Session

The GP reviews imaging, blood results, menstrual and symptom history, risk factors and any need for referral or further investigation.

06

Pharmacist medication review

Medication, supplements, contraception, HRT and relevant interaction considerations can be reviewed within the pelvic-health pathway.

Important: this is a pelvic health assessment, not a cancer-exclusion package. CA 125 is non-specific and ultrasound cannot diagnose all gynaecological disease. Abnormal or indeterminate findings may require specialist gynaecology review, MRI, hysteroscopy, repeat imaging or other tests.

Who may benefit

Common reasons to book

  • Pelvic pain, pressure or persistent bloating
  • Heavy, irregular or painful periods
  • Bleeding between periods or other abnormal bleeding
  • Known or suspected fibroids
  • Ovarian cyst concerns or family history of ovarian disease
  • PCOS symptoms or fertility-related concerns
  • Endometriosis concerns or previous endometrioma
  • Postmenopausal bleeding requiring planned assessment
  • Need for a combined imaging and blood-test pelvic-health review
Do not wait for a routine package if you have severe sudden pelvic pain, heavy bleeding with faintness, suspected ectopic pregnancy, collapse, high fever with severe pelvic symptoms or feel acutely unwell. Seek urgent medical assessment.

Blood panel

24-biomarker profile + CRP + CA 125

The source package groups the blood tests by clinical purpose, for a total of 26 markers.

Haematology

Full Blood Count and ESR, supporting assessment of anaemia, infection clues and inflammatory change.

Kidney & electrolytes

Urea, electrolytes, creatinine and eGFR for kidney function and fluid/electrolyte balance.

Liver profile

ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, bilirubin, albumin and globulin for general liver and medication-safety context.

Bone & mineral markers

Calcium, phosphate, uric acid and magnesium as part of broader women’s-health screening.

Metabolic & iron markers

Glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol and iron/TIBC for metabolic and iron-related assessment.

Pelvic-specific additions

CRP for inflammation and CA 125 as an ovarian-associated marker, always interpreted with ultrasound and clinical context.

Pelvic ultrasound

What the scan assesses

Ovaries

Ovarian size and morphology, simple or complex cysts, visible masses, follicles and polycystic ovarian appearance where relevant.

Uterus

Uterine size and shape, fibroids, visible adenomyosis features and other structural abnormalities.

Endometrium

Endometrial thickness and contour, with polyps or focal abnormalities assessed where visible.

Adnexa & pelvic environment

Free fluid, adnexal abnormalities and fallopian-tube regions where visible, together with indirect findings that may require referral.

Before Visit 1

How to prepare for the pelvic scan

01

Drink around 1 litre of water

Finish drinking approximately one litre of water about one hour before the appointment unless your confirmation gives different instructions.

02

Keep your bladder full

A comfortably full bladder improves the transabdominal pelvic view. Avoid emptying your bladder before the first part of the scan.

03

TVS uses an empty bladder

If a transvaginal scan is recommended and you consent, you will normally empty your bladder before the internal examination.

04

Bring useful records

Bring previous pelvic ultrasound, MRI, blood tests, medication lists and gynaecology or fertility reports if available.

Two-visit workflow

How the Pelvic Health Check works

  1. 1

    Visit 1 — pelvic ultrasound

The pelvic scan is performed and the main observations are usually discussed with you. A written ultrasound report is normally prepared within the clinic’s reporting pathway.

  2. 2

    Visit 1 — blood sampling

The 24-biomarker profile, CRP and CA 125 are collected for laboratory analysis.

  3. 3

    Laboratory analysis

The general profile and CRP are processed through the laboratory pathway; the source package notes that CA 125 typically takes around 1–2 working days.

  4. 4

Visit 2 — GP Strategy Session

The GP reviews symptoms, menstrual history, risk factors, ultrasound findings and blood markers together and recommends next steps.

  5. 5

    Pharmacist medication review

Medication, contraception, HRT, supplements and relevant interaction considerations are reviewed as part of the integrated pathway.

Understanding the tests

Ultrasound and CA 125 answer different questions

Ultrasound shows structure

It can identify many fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometrial abnormalities and pelvic masses, but it cannot determine the nature of every lesion on its own.

CA 125 is non-specific

CA 125 may be elevated in ovarian cancer but also in benign conditions, including menstruation, endometriosis and other inflammatory states. A result must be interpreted in context.

GP review connects the findings

The clinical review helps determine whether findings need reassurance, repeat testing, gynaecology referral, MRI or another investigation.

What is included in the Female Pelvic Health Package?

The package combines six components: pelvic ultrasound, a 24-biomarker blood profile, CRP, CA 125, a 30-minute GP Strategy Session and a pharmacist medication review.

How much is the Pelvic Health Check?

The current LondonSono package specification is £599. This PrivateSono version uses the same current package content and price.

How many blood markers are included?

There are 26 markers in total: the 24-biomarker blood profile plus CRP as an inflammation marker and CA 125 as an ovarian marker.

What does the pelvic ultrasound assess?

The scan assesses the uterus, endometrium, ovaries, adnexal regions, pelvic free fluid and other visible structural abnormalities. Transabdominal ultrasound is used, and transvaginal ultrasound may be offered when clinically appropriate and only with consent.

Can I request a female sonographer?

Yes. A female sonographer can be requested. Availability depends on date and location, so mention the request when booking.

Is the transvaginal scan mandatory?

No. Transvaginal ultrasound is optional and is only performed with informed consent. It can provide higher-resolution views of the ovaries, endometrium and other pelvic structures.

What does CA 125 tell me?

CA 125 is an ovarian-associated blood marker that must be interpreted carefully with symptoms, age and ultrasound findings. It can rise in benign as well as serious conditions and is not a stand-alone ovarian cancer test.

How does the two-visit pathway work?

Visit 1 usually includes the pelvic ultrasound and blood sampling. Once the blood results are available, the GP Strategy Session and pharmacist medication review bring the imaging, laboratory results, symptoms and medication history together.

How should I prepare for the pelvic ultrasound?

For the transabdominal scan, drink around one litre of water about one hour before the appointment and avoid emptying your bladder. If a transvaginal scan is performed, you will normally empty your bladder first.

Can this package rule out ovarian or other gynaecological cancer?

No. Pelvic ultrasound and CA 125 can identify findings that need further assessment but cannot rule out or diagnose all gynaecological cancers on their own. MRI, specialist gynaecology review, repeat imaging or other investigations may be recommended.
